Orlando Car Engine and Motor Replacement

Replacing the motor in your car makes sense when the cost of replacing the engine is less than the cost of replacing the car. The two most common reasons for engine failure are oil starvation and engine overheating.

What happens when a car runs out of oil?

Oil starvation will destroy a car engine

Oil is essential for lubricating and cooling all the moving parts in your engine. When oil stops flowing, the pistons and ball bearings will heat up and seize, stopping an engine dead. After an engine has seized up, the only options are to replace the engine, or scrap the car. Oil will stop flowing if the oil pump fails, if the oil has leaked or burned off, or if the oil is old and has turned into sludge, blocking the flow of oil. That's why regular oil changes are critical for the health of your car.

What Happens When a Car Engine Overheats?

Cylinder heads crack, gaskets leak, and lubrication fails

One of the first things that happens when a car overheats is the head gasket fails, followed by warping or cracking of the cylinder heads. When this happens coolant can mix with the oil and reduce its lubrication properties, allowing the engine to get even hotter. As the metal expands, valve stems can stick and pistons can scuff and seize. If a car is allowed to run too hot for too long, catastrophic motor damage will result, and you'll need an engine replacement to save the car.

Used vs Refurbished Replacement Engines

What is the right replacement motor for your car?

The cheapest way to replace the engine in your car is to obtain a used engine from a salvage yard. Generally the engine will be pulled from a car totaled in an accident, and the salvage yard will have a record of the mileage on the engine. Before the engine replacement mechanics at The Car Spa will replace an engine in a car, they thoroughly inspect the replacement motor to make sure it will run acceptably in your car.

Refurbished Engines can cost up to four times as much as a used engine, but the benefit is that the motor comes with a warranty for parts and labor. Drivers who opt for refurbished motors usually drive expensive or vintage automobiles.

Mike Says:

If you oil pressure or temperature warning lights come on, STOP THE CAR!

When you see the oil light or if your temperature gauge is in the red, it means there is something critically wrong with your car and you need to shut the engine off immediately. Don't drive it home. Don't drive it to a auto repair shop. Don't even drive it to The Car Spa - even if we're only a mile or two away. The damage you could cause to your engine in those few short moments could be huge. Stopping and calling a tow truck at the first sign of trouble could be the difference between a minor repair (like replacing a seized thermostat) and a major repair (engine replacement).

Becareful who you lend your car to.

We've found that most catastrophic engine failure happens when someone else was driving the car: a friend, a spouse, a son or daughter. The fact is we don't respond the same when we're driving someone's else's car, even if it's someone we know well.
