Orlando CV Joint Repair Center

CV joints (or Constant Velocity Joints) transfer torque at constant speed to your wheels. All front wheel drive cars have CV joints, and many rear and four-wheel drive cars and trucks also have CV joints.

How Often Do I Need CV Joint Service?

CV joints are long lasting

The CV joints on your car are packed with grease and protected by a rubber or plastic CV joint boot. As long as the boot remains intact, the CV joint will last a very long time. On rare occasions, cars over 100,000 miles may wear out the CV joint naturally, even with CV joint boot in tact. But on a regular basis, there is no need to constantly service the CV joints.

How Do I Know If I Have Damaged CV Joints?

Listen for a rattling sound on turns

If you hear a clicking or a rattling sound when you turn, you have a damaged CV joint. If you catch the problem early, there is a chance that all your CV joint mechanic needs to do is replace the CV joint boot and repack the CV joint with fresh grease. By continuing to drive with a damaged CV joint, you'll almost certainly need a CV joint replacement. In extreme cases, the drive shaft can be damaged, and may need to be replaced as well.

If you hear the CV joint rattle on straight-aways, take your car in for service immediately; the CV joint could disjoin and prevent the car from running.

Mike Says:

If your CV joint is making noise, do not wait to make a CV joint repair

CV joints cannot be refurbished, so there are no rebuilt CV joints on the market. As a result, when your CV joint repair technician fixes your car, he'll need to use all new parts, making CV joint replacement a relatively expensive auto repair. The key to keeping the costs low on a CV joint replacement is to bring your vehicle for service as you detect the problem.
